In June 2020, HOI was contracted by the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission to evaluate the Better Use of Medicines in Aged Care (BUMAC), following the successful completion of the project Development of an Evaluation Framework and Implementation Plan to Assess the Better Use of Medications in Aged Care. HOI’s methodology for the evaluation was designed to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the appropriateness, effectiveness and efficiency of the BUMAC initiative, and to evaluate the impact of the BUMAC initiatives on behavioural change of appropriate medication management in aged care settings.
A four-stage, multi-phase methodology is currently being implemented to fulfil the terms of the evaluation. Key activities include a process evaluation, outcomes and impact evaluation, case studies, and behavioural impact analysis.
